A new entry in Atlus' popular role-playing series is coming to Japan.

Atlus has announced a new entry in its popular handheld-centric franchise, Etrian Odyssey.

Aside from the fact that it's called Etrian Odyssey V, nothing else was revealed about the game. You can check out the announcement trailer below for a tease at what's to come.

No platforms were mentioned in the trailer, but it's safe to assume that Etrian Odyssey V will be coming to 3DS. Likewise, the game is currently only confirmed for release in Japan, but one would suspect a release in other territories is inevitable.

There is supposed to be a mystery dungeon crossover too. And a remake of the second entry releasing (I think like in a few days).

There is definitely going to be a release in the territories. Hope they give out character development like in EO: Untold instead of just emotionless portraits.

This is good news, though I still have three other games to play in the series first. But I s'pose it'll take a while before this comes stateside.

Annualizing Etrian Odyssey, as they seem to be doing, seems like a weird decision, but I thought the same thing about Assassin's Creed.

Makes sense, considering it's a super long game (50+ for main quest, add another 20 to 30 for post game), it presents itself as a value to consumers, but at the same time, it's gotta be super cheap and easy for them to crank these out.  I haven't played the Japanese ones, but in the Western releases there's no voice acting, no cutscenes, and the graphics are not super fancy.

Which is not to say these games aren't awesome.  They are.

Oh I like them a lot, but I still haven't finished EOIV, and there have been a couple since then. I just can't get through them at a pace that fits that schedule.
