The Australian developer is supposedly porting yet another game to Nintendo's new system.

Straight Right is rumored to be porting a "triple-A" Square Enix title to the Wii U. This information comes from an update to Straight Right Technical Project Manager Chris Slater's LinkedIn profile.

Before Slater's profile was updated, it read "Working for Straight Right on a short term contract, porting a triple-A Square Enix game to the yet-to-be-released Wii U platform."

Straight Right studios is the Australian developer responsible for bringing Mass Effect 3 to Nintendo's newest home console. In addition to Mass Effect 3, Straight Right previously announced they are also developing two additional games: an original IP and a game based on a big franchise. Whether this rumored Square Enix title is the game based on the big franchise is currently unknown, but it is possible.

Current speculation theorizes the game could be Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sleeping Dogs, Hitman Absolution, or Tomb Raider. Nothing has been officially confirmed, so only time will tell if and what Straight Right is working on for Square Enix.

It's that Eidos component that does little to excite me. Although I certainly understand that their titles may have more sales potential, but I'm still partial to Square-Enix proper's output than Eidos'. Oh well.

What Japan-made Square Enix games on a home console have been all that exciting, though? FFXIII? FFXIII-2? FFXIII-3?

I'd much prefer seeing Tomb Raider come to Wii U (that's the one that makes the most sense to me, especially with the E3 2012 rumors about it).

It would be a cruel joke and strangely poetic if it is Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (Still wished they titled it Final Fantasy XIII-3).

What would be really strange is if the game is A Realm Reborn: Final Fantasy XIV, the redo of the marred Final Fantasy XIV.

I hope it is the new Tomb Raider if only for the sake of parity.

Final Fantasy VII HD Remake. Sony fans commit seppuku.

Awesome, I'm glad to hear that you are in fact confirming the release of "Chrono Cross"!

Hitman owns and I could see it making use of the extra screen.

Agreed. Hitman looks awesome.

There are rumors of Tomb Raider coming to Wii U going back to E3, and those and the timeframe mean my money's on that.

I would place a few chips on the Tomb Raider rumor coming true.

But I'd also place a few chips on FFXIV/XV coming too.

It would be amazing if this were a Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game, but knowing Square it's probably Final Fantasy XIII-3.

Or maybe we're all misinterpreting and it's Dragon Quest X.

Original Crystal Chronicles with its stories expanded.

The rumor specifically says they will be porting a game to Wii U, meaning it exists or will exist on another system. So a Crystal Chronicles game is out, and Square Enix is internally developing the Wii U version of Dragon Quest X.

If Final Fantasy XV isn't already in development then I could see Nintendo convincing SE to make the Wii U its lead development platform for the title.

I do hope that Hitman and Tomb Raider find their way onto the Wii U.

AdrockOctober 17, 2012

Assuming this is true and we're only looking at one game (for now), I'd put money on it being Uncharted Tomb Raider. They're trying to relaunch the entire IP. Putting it on Wii U reaches more people.
