Ubisoft Has Seven Wii U Games in the Works

So, we've definitely got Assassin's Creed III, Avengers, Killer Freaks, Rayman Legends, Ghost Recon...

Ubisoft is expecting to release seven Wii U games by the end of March 2013, according to President Yves Guillemot at their annual Earnings Presentation.

The games will consist of two core games and five casual titles. We currently know of eight Ubisoft titles for the system, listed below:

  • Assassin's Creed III
  • Killer Freaks from Outer Space
  • Ghost Recon Online
  • Avengers: Battle for Earth
  • Rayman Legends
  • A new Rabbids title (Rabbids Rumble?)
  • A sports title
  • Just Dance

The two core titles are likely Assassin's Creed III and either Killer Freaks or Ghost Recon. It's likely that one of these games is delayed (Killer Freaks?) or one of the tentatively announced ones (the sports title, which was announced at E3 2011) doesn't exist anymore.

Ubisoft is prepping the reveal of an unannounced Q4 2012 title at E3 2012, though it is unknown if it will be on a Nintendo system.

Talkback

I'm thinking Killer Freaks is delayed until mid-2013. That's just my prediction.

Either way, Ubisoft's first batch of Wii U games might be pretty good.

Ubi Soft launch rush!
This might be their best yet. Then again, it wouldn't be too hard to be better than Red Steel and Far Cry: Vengeance. Assassin's Creed III and Ghost Recon Online Arcade might be over kill in that regard.

I'll probably get Rayman Legends at some point. That game looks like it's made from the laughter of angels.

Considering Wii U likely won’t be released until October/November, it’s not hard to imagine some of these games being pushed to 2013. But, I suppose, if the games are multiplatform like Rayman, they’ll be released when they’re ready, regardless of the Wii U launch window.

It wouldn't be a console launch without half a dozen mediocre Ubisoft games.

LouieturkeyMay 16, 2012

What sports titles do they usually do?

The wording was vague, but I think it means the fiscal year, so 7 titles by March 31, 2013. Regardless, I think we'll see a minimum of 4-5 Ubisoft titles at launch. I think Assassin's Creed III, Rayman Legends, Avengers, and Ghost Recon are close to locks.

The sports title, I assume, would be something like their Motion Sports crap on Kinect. Or maybe it's actually good.

Because I'm bored and fooling around waiting for my ride to get out of here for the summer, I decided to do some research, and according to Metacritic the best rated sports game Ubisoft ever made was Shaun White Snowboarding, with a mighty 72 metascore, followed by the DS Real Soccer 2009, a port of a cell phone game, at 70.

Shooo, that's a lot for this early. Wii U is going to rock.

Now watch as none of them turn out to be any good

Just nitpicking, but it's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online.

TJ:  Yep, that's being nitpicky. Who calls it "Tom Clancy's"?  All Clancy does anymore is say, "Okay, put my name on it. Now give me my money!" I noticed that you didn't call him out on "Just Dance" actually being "Just Dance 4".

Maybe you're just doing it out of respect for an awesome franchise. For that, I can say I definitely understand.

It's the name, you don't write "Mario Bros. Mii". Tom Clancy's is part of the actual name. Also, Ubisoft paid Clancy like $20 million (or some big number) so they can just put his name on a game without asking him. AFAIK, the Wii U Just Dance game has no name.

I have no problem with casual mentions of a game not using the full name, though a list of games in a article probably should.

They should call it "Tom Clancy's Just Dance 4".

We knew Ubisoft was bringing atleast 6 games to the Wii U but it was rumored that the sports game had been quietly canned a while back.

The 2 that bring it back to 8, was the previously unknown The Avengers and the apparent resurrection of the Ubi Sports title. (it was rumored to be a Wii Sports Resort-like title BTW, lots of sports mini-game type collection).

I'm never going to be able to look at that box without thinking this.

If you check the resumes of the people who actually work on the Tom Clancy games, they rarely ever actually put the Tom Clancy part. Even on the boxart, it's barely a footnote, and it's omitted frequently on their official websites.

Ubisoft should just put his name on all their games, to really get their money's worth on the licensing deal. I bet if it were called Tom Clancy's Rayman Origins it would have sold better.

Basically, that works with my suspicion that the sports title was cancelled. So then the 7 above are likely what we're getting. Not too bad.

Also, if you want to real technical about it, it's Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth.

We refer to that game, and all the Tom Clancy games, as their full titles in our database, but for the purposes of these news stories, we'll use the more colloquial forms without the branded buzz words.

Rayman legends being the 1 game i care about on that list i gotta say I'm not at all impressed. However i Will give the new IPs a shot, like killer freaks.

I'd say, out of that list, I'd be down for Rayman Legends, Killer Freaks, ACIII, and maybe Ghost Recon (especially if it's F2P).

Though, that all depends if Killer Freaks actually seems good, and the ACIII Wii U additions are neat.

Didn't Ubisoft say at E3 last year that they are probably gonna charge around $10 for the Wii U version of Ghost Recon? I know they were at least considering it.
