Japanese 3DS owners can get their hands on the Famicom title this February.

The Famicom version of Punch-Out!! will be available on the Japanese 3DS Virtual Console on February 2 for 500 yen.

Like the original Famicom version, the game's text will be in English, but when or whether it hits North American shores is still unknown.

Portable Punch Out!!? Man that sounds appealing. I'm sure that will come here to the US.

The headline SHOULD read "Punch-Out!! Coming to Japanese 3DS Virtual Console"

This critical "Japanese" or "European" qualifier seems to be left off of news article headlines quite frequently.  And that's pretty misleading.

Oh yeah, these are constantly left out...

@pap64
It happens enough to be noticeable.

The abstract says that it will be a Japanese release. It is still mentioned early on.

This is HUGE if it makes it to the States.  It has gotten to be that my preferred way of experiencing every retro Nintendo system is through one portable Nintendo device!

Can't wait to fight Mike Tyson, er, Mr. Dream on the go!  Providing it comes to the US.

I'm bummed that we're seeing NES games on the eShop this early, actually. Game Boy games haven't been given time to shine, their releases have been a trickle. Now they're probably gonna get completely overshadowed not just by proper eShop games, but by the NES classics that Nintendo has re-sold to us almost every gen.

The list of Game Boy titles I still want to see on the service is very, very long. And come on, where are the Game Gear games?

AVJanuary 25, 2012

pffffft i rather have the original arcade dual screen game.

CericJanuary 25, 2012

You know Punch-Out would have made an Excellent 3D Classic.

I'm still waiting for the TurboGrafx-16 games they promised. I want my Chew Man Fu, dammit!

People click on the story because of the HEADLINE.  There is a huge difference between "Punch-Out!! Coming to 3DS Virtual Console" and "Punch-Out!! Coming to Japanese 3DS Virtual Console" particularly when this is primarily a US website.

Not to mention that the Twitter feed NEVER mentions this fact either (and with plenty of characters remaining).  It's almost to the point where the site is losing credibility when it comes to news stories.

How are we losing credibility when we're reporting a factually correct story? I'll give you the fact that the headline could be seen as misleading, but is it truly that big of a deal? It's not like we're saying it is coming to VC, and then say in the article "oh wait, it's not! Sucker!"

Furthermore, while we are primarily North American, we are Nintendo World Report, and we do attract viewers from all over the world.

Regardless, I see your point and understand your frustration. I'll make a note to tell our news writers to more clearly state regions in articles.

If you want to say we're losing credibility over this, then be my guest. We can disagree on things and it's totally cool.

Regarding Punch-Out on 3DS - Make it a 3D Classic or I, who could be seen as a mega Punch-Out fan, don't care that much. Eh, who the hell am I kidding. I'll buy this day one. ...damn you Nintendo...
