The online retailer has made both hardware units and games available following today's announcements.

With today's announcement of the North American launch details, Amazon.com has begun listing 3DS systems and games for pre-order. For $249.99, users can put their name down for either the Aqua Blue or Cosmo Black 3DS. (Amazon's standard policy is that your credit card will not be charged until the order ships.)

Two Konami titles are also available for pre-order. Contra 3DS and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3DS are both available for $39.99

UPDATE: Amazon UK is now also lists 3DS for pre-sale. Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black are available for £219.99.

Talkback

Wait, I don't recall a Contra game confirmed for 3DS before. Amazon has made mistakes before (listing products that never ended up existing), hopefully this is not one of those mistakes since I would like a Contra game on 3DS.

There was apparently some mention of it back at E3. A cursory google search showed some very incomplete info. It was probably one of the many "Lists of Games" we saw splashed up in presentation slides.

TJ SpykeJanuary 19, 2011

Ah, OK. I just didn't recall ever seeing or hearing anyone talk about it.

Well if it makes you feel any better I sent out a "WOAH GUYS, STOP THE BUS" email to the staff asking about it.

Then I Googled it.

Go me.

BlackNMild2k1January 19, 2011

Yeah, we've known about Contra for a while. But 2 days ago I almost rushed to post that Amazon was preordering for that and a a different Konami game thinking that Contra hadn't been announced yet, only to realize it was on the list of games from back in November.

Got my black system pre-ordered. I chose one-day shipping, which currently predicts that it will arrive on March 29th. However, Amazon typically ships video game products the day before their official release date, which in this case is a Saturday, so I should actually get on Monday the 28th.

ShyGuyJanuary 19, 2011

I'm going to walk into my local store on Launch day and pick one up.

Gamestop has the 3DS available for pre-order too (at least gamestop.ca does) and its the same price for Canada! Go Canadian Dollar parity! Woo hoo!

Fatty The HuttJanuary 19, 2011

Gamestop.com has the 3DS for pre-order, too.

BlackNMild2k1January 19, 2011

hasn't gamestop had the 3DS up for pre-order since November though?
or was that just in-store?

Fatty The HuttJanuary 19, 2011

Amamzon.com also has nintendogs+cats and Frogger 3DS (!) available for pre-order. No release dates for any of the games are posted.

ShyGuyJanuary 19, 2011

Is $40 going to be the going price for 3DS games? I was hoping the iPhone's cheap app store would drive the average game price down.

NinGurl69 *hugglesJanuary 19, 2011

You might've forgotten, but these 3DS games aren't cheap apps.

They started about a week or two ago, it was this month.

No it wasn't, because I did it in late December.

GameStop started taking pre-orders today

$50 down
SKU - 020132 (just incase they can't find it in their system)

it was in December. I made the post the day it started.
but I'm sure it was in-store only.

TJ SpykeJanuary 19, 2011

Close enough.

If the Canadian prices are any higher (DS games currently sell at $40-45), I'm going to throw a fit.  You know, considering the Canadian dollar is worth more than the USD now.

BlackNMild2k1January 19, 2011

Isn't the Canadian dollar worth something like a few cents more than the USD?
I remember someone pointing out the current conversion in some other thread.

ShyGuyJanuary 19, 2011

Oh Canada...

Yes, and most economists are predicting it to remain in the range of 0 - 10 cents above parity for the next several years.

It was probably I who pointed it out, since I was already getting peeved that Wii games were getting price increases years after they were released.

TJ SpykeJanuary 19, 2011

The US and Canadian dollars are basically equal. The difference right now is less than half a penny. $1 US equals $0.9958 Canadian.

CalibanJanuary 19, 2011

Yay, same price for us. It's been a while since I've been at EB, but I'm probably just going to pick it up at Future Shop.

fordrobJanuary 19, 2011

Pre-order done and done (in black, of course)...no more ice blue DS Lite for me, thank you very much...until I want to play Zero Mission again, that is...

I'm waiting to see what sort of trade-in deals are offered.  Though, I guess they won't make much of a dent this time, given the price jump.

Apparently Japan didn't get the memo. 260+ in line for preorder. Gamestop would kill for this.

CaseyfamJanuary 20, 2011

$260 is still sounding a little steep for me...
Oh well. I'll get one in 3 years when the prices drop and the 3DS lite XL comes out.
