High Voltage's first-person shooter sequel won't be hitting stores in 2010, but it is getting Classic Controller support.

Conduit 2 isn't coming out until 2011 according to a fact sheet released by developer High Voltage Software.

Along with that announcement, it was revealed that the game will support the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro in addition to the Wii Remote and Nunchuk setup from The Conduit and the sequel's addition of Wii MotionPlus. Conduit 2 features 12-player online play, four-player split-screen co-op and competitive multiplayer, and a continuation of the story that started in 2009's The Conduit.

If the game has Classic Controller compatibility, what in the heck will Wii Motion plus be good for besides a feature to list on the box? I can't imagine it would do anything differently than a controller.

EnnerSeptember 06, 2010

I'm betting that the Motion Plus is employed to accurately use the All Seeing Eye sideways :p

conduit 2 delayed until 2011. that's cool I was going to wait to buy it anyway. I'm getting Goldeneye for sure (unless it gets horrible reviews)

MorariSeptember 06, 2010

Classic Controller support? Isn't the lack of terrible dual analog controls the appeal of a Wii FPS?

They're just doing it to reach Goldeneye feature parity.

StratosSeptember 06, 2010

M+ won't drastically alter the gameplay. It is only expected to help you with accuracy. In the first conduit if you point off of the screen you lose your ability to aim and it has a slight delay when you point it back at the screen. This should also prevent you from losing control of the pointer when you perform a melee attack.

I'm glad it is delayed as well. For one it will make the game a better experience and secondly I don't expect to be buying many more games this year due to a skinny wallet so anything released this year might get missed by me.

You joke, but I wonder if High Voltage is pulling a repeat of what the entire industry did last fall in reaction to Modern Warfare 2: delay Conduit 2 to get away from Goldeneye and Call of Duty: Black Ops, because there's probably only enough potential 3rd party Wii FPS sales to cater to one game and Goldeneye has the name recognition.

I meant the Classic Controller support -- they said in an interview that they added Classic Controller support since Goldeneye had it, and it only took them a day to add in.
But you're probably right about the strategic decision.

Wow, it only takes a day to add something like that in and Nintendo can't bother to add it in for their major releases? I'm referring to NSMBWii specifically though it can apply to a number of other releases.

I'm not bothered by the delay, there are already a lot of games coming out this year that I'd like to get so I don't know if I would have been able to buy it. Though I'm not yet sold on it anyway, I'm waiting to see some reviews.

Hopefully, the delay was done to further polish the game, instead of just pushing back the release date because of the other games coming out around the holidays.

But the reason for one (delay strategically) benefits the other (MOAR POLISH).

I guess I'm getting Goldeneye now.  I'll still get this when it comes out.  I actually liked the first one.  Pissed Kevin Sorbo isn't in it.

Just because a game was delayed doesn't mean the developers have the budget to continue working on it. Some completed games have been delayed for seemingly no reason, like SSBBrawl.

I thought it was loosely confirmed that it was delayed due to the online problems.

That sounds like conjecture. I'd believe that only if it were confirmed in a press release or interview.

The US version of the game was delayed one additional time after the Japanese and US release were delayed simultaneously, and the game was being translated into English as Japanese content was being written, so it's hard to say if there was a meaningful purpose for the English delay.

As far as The Conduit 2, goes, I don't think the delay is a bad thing.  So many people are aware of GoldenEye from the N64.  Virtually anyone who played the N64 knew of, and liked the game, so long as he or she liked first-person shooters.  It was the "must-have" multiplayer shooter of that generation.  Point is, it has a high reputation.  With any luck, The Conduit 2 will make it out right about the time the general public grows tired of GoldenEye, and it could become the rebound game.  I don't have any inside info, and it isn't like it means very much, but the game did seem to be coming along nicely at E3, and the developers didn't seem to hint at any delay at that point in time.

FZeroBoyoSeptember 08, 2010

Ah, no big deal. If this means more polish for the game, then do it HVS. Multi-console owners still have GoldenEye, Halo: Reach, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and others to hold them over until then.  :D

I've said for a while that going up against GoldenEye and Call of Duty simultaneously was suicide. This is the right move even if they don't have the resources to do extra development.
