Nintendo Reconfirms Current Fiscal Year Release for 3DS

While Reggie Fils-Aime said differently on late night TV, the company line is that the 3D portable will launch before March 31, 2011

Nintendo is standing firm on their original release window for the 3DS, which was before the end of the current fiscal year, despite the fact that Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime teased a specific time frame of "next year" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last week.

"Nintendo 3DS is schedule to launch by the end of Nintendo's current fiscal year, which runs through March 31, 2011," said Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America's senior director of Corporate Communications.

Fils-Aime could have been correct in his slip of the tongue, but Nintendo of America is not ready to fully admit that the system isn't launching in North America until 2011.

Talkback

Unlike Kotaku, we can name our source!

Also, testing on-site talkback. I like it. :)

Did NWR just call out Kotaku?

Reggie meant the next calendar year, didn't he? So he could be right that it launches next year, but still in Nintendo's current fiscal year.

Well, he might not be wrong, but Nintendo isn't backing up his "next year" comment. That's the important part of this.

I think Nintendo just wanted to avoid people thinking it would be released next summer or later.

But... the current fiscal year ends tomorrow...

No, Nintendo's fiscal year ends March 31, which Nintendo themselves said in the first post of this thread.

And before you say anything, different companies have different dates for their fiscal years.

I still hold that the absolute best case scenario for this is March '11... and I think it's going to get delayed beyond that to the following holiday.

BlackNMild2k1June 29, 2010

No way. A Japanese retailer is already listing it for release this holiday (along with PSP-4000) and Japan needs to re-invigorate hardware and software sales. It's likely that it won't release in 2010 in the US, but Japan is ripe for a hardware refresh.
