The horror-survival epic could re-invent itself in the next game in the series.
In a panel at the San Diego Comic- Con, Capcom Producer Jun Takeuchi mentioned that he would like to see the Resident Evil series re-imagined in the next generation of the franchise when asked if the series would see a drastic change after the release of Darkside Chronicles on the Wii. Takeuchi further elaborated that "[Kawata and I] are playing blackjack to see who has the responsibility of next episode of series,” suggesting that the series might see a different producer.
In 2005, Resident Evil 4 was released and featured a game engine different from previous Resident Evil titles as well as a setting unique to this title. This garnered critical acclaim from the industry and the game received several “Game of the Year” awards. Resident Evil 4 was later ported to the Wii and featured enhanced controls that made it the definitive version of the game. Resident Evil 5 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 was upgraded once more with the addition of a second character.
