Get ready for Nibris' black-and-white exclusive for the Revolution.

First black & white game!

Exclusive Nintendo Revolution title Sadness will be fully.. black and white!

Cracow, 11.04.2006

Nibris decided to follow Nintendo's path, which definately fights the stagnation which has occured in video games, and creates new trends "With thise move, we want to create a unique environment, which is only available in Sadness," Says Łukasz "CassSept" Oskard, a Nibris employee. "But Nibris are not following the trend created though Sin City, but rather a game which is set pre-World War." More information on Sadness will be available soon.

Talkback

Bill AurionApril 12, 2006

In before Ian rants about how there's automatically no substance to this game because of the visual style...

Karl Castaneda #2April 12, 2006

Aw, come on, Bill. You know Ian's gonna be happy; this is another game announced for the Revolution.

He already did the rant Bill was talking about in another thread.

KnowsNothingApril 12, 2006

A few days ago I was looking at some old photographs and thinking how cool a black and white game could be, if done right. Without realizing it I was thinking about a game very similar to what we know about Sadness right now. Needless to say I'm excited face-icon-small-smile.gif

Ian SaneApril 12, 2006

Can I be happy that the Rev has another game annouced while at the same time suspecting that the developer's emphasis on the style suggets weak gameplay?

It is cool that info on Rev games is starting to come out on regular basis. But I'm not going to rush to pre-order a game just because it's in black and white and has a unique style when I don't really have any info on how the game plays.

Uhhh, does ANYONE preorder a game that's just been announced? The game won't be out for another year at LEAST...

MysticGohanApril 12, 2006

lol, we all knew that was coming ha!

year at LEAST? I was thinking six to eight months....

Ian SaneApril 12, 2006

"Uhhh, does ANYONE preorder a game that's just been announced? The game won't be out for another year at LEAST..."

I was exagerating. Some people hear about a game and immediately are all "I'm totally going to buy that". Now they still may never buy it but the initial "ohmygodthisissoawesomebestgameever!" reaction is there. Especially for the first few titles shown for a new console.

Bill AurionApril 12, 2006

year at LEAST? I was thinking six to eight months....

This is an up-and-coming dev, PLUS they are putting out another game first (if they can get it published)...I think "a year, at least" is pretty generous... face-icon-small-smile.gif

vuduApril 12, 2006

Ooohhh...I thought you meant Revolution launch wouldn't be for another year at LEAST. My bad.

Spak-SpangApril 12, 2006

Wow. I can decide what is funnier. Everyone able to slam Ian about rants and opinions before they happen...or the fact that Ian then actually does said rants after the fact.

It is like he is our very own Planetgamecube Forum stereotype.

"That just Ian."

"Oh, Don't be an Ian."

"You just Ian posted."

I can see those sayings now.

Hostile CreationApril 12, 2006

"Can I be happy that the Rev has another game annouced while at the same time suspecting that the developer's emphasis on the style suggets weak gameplay?"

I'd say that's an unfair statement. I'd be more concerned that it's a new developer than anything else, but who knows what they're capable of? Some of the best games of this generation were oozing with style, and a unique presentation is almost always indicative of an interesting (often great) game. People who are dedicated to making great games generally put the effort into making them look and feel equally good. Look at virtually any Nintendo title, the games are both fun and aesthetically appealing.
Some games have style but lack gameplay, like Eternal Darkness. Some might argue Killer 7. But I loved both of those games (especially Killer 7) anyway, even if the gameplay wasn't spectacular. The style and story was interesting enough to get me through the game, and left me with a feeling of satisfaction afterward.
Sadness has great potential, and it's fair to get excited about it. No reason to crush our dreams just yet, Ian.

I think you're all jumping WAAAAY too far ahead in the game.

I mean, excuse me but... do these guys even have a DEV KIT?

I mean, sure they have a GC one but do they have a Rev Dev kit at all? I was under the impression that they didn't, and that's why I'm flabbergasted by this announcement. I'm like... "WHUZZAH?"

The website says this game is slated for a 2007 release. I bet we won't even see it at E3. If its there, not playable. I give it a year or more for release.

NephilimApril 12, 2006

raid over river and sadness
2 games coming to rev from one small dev, very nice
but only a few days ago they said they didnt have a rev dev kit, so they both must be very early and could be out way late into 2007

Spak-SpangApril 12, 2006

I thought Raid over the River was now a DS game. Is it being created for both? I would rather it for one or the other...I hate when developers try to shrink an idea into a portable...or try to build an idea perfect for portable up into a console game. Both seem to always have poor results.

NephilimApril 12, 2006

Ign have still have it as rev, dated march 8th
didnt know it was changed to ds?

Hey now, I thought ED had tremendous gameplay and style face-icon-small-smile.gif, it was very engaging, keeping me within its grasp from beginning to end. That is saying alot considering I beat few games now days, it takes a good game (both style and gameplay) to keep me hooked.

They have both a DS and Rev version in the works...

Nosferat2April 12, 2006

Wow, a next generation game that is black and white. They sould call it . I think the decision to do it as such is that they are new and lack the experience to make a visually striking game. Which is ok, but dont cover it up by saying its the "style" they chose or that it is "stylish".

Man twice the power of the system that created RE4 and we get a black and white game. Am i the only one disappointed by the news.
Ill reserve judgement till i see it, but right now the news blows....

I think thats very narrow minded of you to say that, the game is supposed to take place pre- world war 1 and they said that they are focusing on atmosphere and mood rather than going rambo and mowing down everything in sight. Also the smallest dev houses sometimes has the best ideas and this one sounds very interesting. I personally think that graphics are losing their luster since graphics do not really make or break the game, its the game mechanics and gameplay that decide that factor. Sure graphics can make some games stylish like cellshading did make some games really stylish and maybe this monochromatic style can make this game really fresh and stylish.

Also on IGN it was said that one of their inspirations to Sadness is Sin City so I wonder how this pans out.

TansunnApril 12, 2006

Well, I admit it's an unusual decision, but I'm interested to see what they do with it. It's definitely grabbed my attention, at least.

I can hear it now....

"The Revoltion is so week it can't even output culor graphix! LOL AMIRITE?!"

But really, do we know anything about this game other then the fact it will be black and white? I hope they steal from Sin City/ Wind Waker and have either the main character in color (Like Link when he first visited the underwater castle of Hyrule) or certain objects in color. All black and white... can be cool when done right in films, but seems like it could get boring in video games.

MysticGohanApril 12, 2006

As I recall, the begaining of BoF II ( Breath of Fire II ) was in B&W for abit. It was a great gameface-icon-small-smile.gif

For some odd, irrational, illogical, inexplicable reason...

This game makes me hope against hope for a Jane Austen videogame adaptation...

Sense & Sensibility the game? Take me now!

wanderingApril 12, 2006

NiBRiS is, I have to say, doing an excellent job of hyping themselves. It should make it much easier for them to get a publisher/dev kits/funding, now that everyone who is following revolution wants their games.

Oh, the people here who are dismissing this game because it's black and white are filling me with.....well, I can't think of the word, but, some negative emotion.

The OmenApril 13, 2006

People complaining about a projected exclusive Rev game? Wow, our standards have certainly risen quite a bit here at pgc. And complaining about a B & W game is like complaining about B & W films(which I assume most of you do). Color, b & w matters not as long as the game/film is good. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch Eraserhead...in B & W! (oh no!)

The Academy award nominated film "Good Night, and Good Luck" - for which George "Time's 1997 Handsomest Man Alive" Clooney won a supporting actor award - was in black and white. That movie was also a period piece, and it STILL earned a nomination for Best Picture.

If you've got an issue with Black and White, then you'll have to take it with Mr. Oscar.

Well, first of all Clooney won for Syriana (he wasn't nominated for his performance in GNAGL, just writing and directing).

Second, there is no need to argue whether or not black and white movies are good or bad. There is simply no basis for saying they're bad, so it's not worth humouring someone who feels that. Best to ignore stupidity.

As for a black and white video game...it's never been done. But I think if some movies play best in B&W (and some definitely do, see the Coen brother's Man Who Wasn't There, Schindler's List, aforementioned Sin City), then perhaps a game can too. With good gameplay it'll be a good game, and hey, the B&W may add something!

Professor GnarlyApril 14, 2006

I hope its a survival horror game. That's a genre that could benefit from B & W.

ThePermApril 14, 2006

there are some things you can do in black and white that are haeder to do in color. It would probably e easier to reach a higher evel of realism.

NotSoStuApril 18, 2006

Hey, guys, sorry to rain on your happy day, but what are the chances Nibris even has a dev kit? Yeah. That's correct. Nada.

Hostile CreationApril 18, 2006

They have a Gamecube devkit they've been working with (since it's supposedly very similar to the Rev one). With all the attention they're garnering, I wouldn't really be surprised if they managed to pick up a publisher and a Revdevkit.

IceColdApril 18, 2006

Ha, that's good.. Revkit. Kind of like prE3..

RequiemApril 18, 2006

So what is this game about?

Last I heard about it was that your some crazy lunatic that's pretty depressed/pissed off and that you can't go to sleep.

If it is a survival horror game, black and white would be perfect. Although, I would like a few hints of blue and green every now and then (like walking through a moonlit field).

NinGurl69 *hugglesApril 18, 2006

Screen warping effects and optical illusions would be nice.

Hostile CreationApril 18, 2006

I thought they said narcolepsy, not insomnia. Narcolepsy is randomly falling asleep.
Which, to me, sounds much more interesting.
