New Nintendo DS Ads Begin Airing

Nintendo's full promos for the DS launch hit the airwaves today, focusing on wireless communication and touch screen.

Nintendo begins broadcasting their three big DS spots today and Leo Burnett, the agency responsible has them hosted for viewing online.

"Breath" sets a snowy scene. A man walks up to a window, blows on it to fog it up, and writes a message on it. Then the pane above it fogs up on its own, and a reply appears. The window transitions into a DS with a voice-over saying, "Chat wirelessly. Play wirelessly."

"Dust" features a similar concept. A man walks up behind a van covered in dust. He writes "GO" on the back window, and watches as the van drives off on its own.

The final spot is titled "Gravy" and it is arguably the best of the three. It's set in a restaurant, and a man with a date starts off by writing "Game?" in his gravy. A girl at another table responds by writing in the condensation in her glass of water. He taunts her a bit, and then the waiter writes "You're both toast!" on a dessert plate.

The ads are noticeably targeted at young adults, and each features footage from Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt.

i must admit these commercials are definitely for once not aimed at children and i can so see these played in movie theaters like they intended but why are they starting so late.....

Because the supply of the DS on Nov 21 is nowhere near what people would have demanded if they had started the commercials earlier.

That, and they want these things to really take off around Christmas. Why have people buy your cash cow a month and a half early if you can get them prepped for the holidays, when they would be more likley to buy -more- than just any other day.

It is amazing how different these are from all Japanese DS promotions. Normally I'd argue they need more game footage, but we all know the launch line-up would look a bit weak (at least if it were shown without someone touching the screens)

I can't get Dust to work properly, but aside from that, excellent commercials. They get the point across, they show what it is (though not much), and they're very cool. They should release some more interactive commercials (people actually doing stuff with the DS), but I think this is a good start.

Very very nice. My favorite was "Breath." Few more days til' DS. Sooooooo excited.

Wow, this is the first time in a long while that I've liked a Nintendo commercial that didn't focus on gameplay footage. It's attention-grabbing, very good stuff overall. face-icon-small-thumbsup.gif

I just wish a certain key word had been used in the commerical that mentioned Metroid Hunters: First Hunt.

"Free"

Edit: Just noticed it says "demo card included" in small writing in the bottom left corner. face-icon-small-confused.gif

Although there was barely any footage, i agree the commercial does the job very well. It tells you what it is what it does and why u must have it, and it does it in a very creative style. IMO it still could be better but i like it.

I really like these commercials. They have a magical, mystical feel to them that aren't cheesy.

You really feel that this product they are advertising is special. You don't know what it is, but you know its something cool.

I wonder if the populace will feel the same way I do.

Breath is definately my favorite one.

And I thought the teaser trailers were good...These are just enchanting...

(Aha, the look the waiter has is so evil)

I already have a DS face-icon-small-smile.gif, and after playing "Feel the Magic", I think a "Breath" commercial should have had something showing off the microphone's capabilities. There's a few minigames in "Feel the Magic" that require breath power, and you can record a voice sample to play on demand at completely random times.

I like Breath because it has my first name on the top window pane face-icon-small-smile.gif

Now those are some of the BEST commercials I've ever seen! And trust me, I've seen alot. Bravo, Nintendo!!!!

Very wonderfall commercials. "Eric" looks just like Tyron Leitso.
