An additional Japanese Nintendo Direct will take place next week, President Iwata announced at the end of today's Japanese Nintendo Direct. 

The broadcast will focus on third-party 3DS games. The exact date and time will be announced via the official Nintendo twitter account. No broadcasts have been announced for other regions.

No, all he'll have to say is "we have Dragon Quest & Monster Hunter, which are the only franchises you folks in Japan still go nuts about outside our own."

Seriously, unless he steps up & announces that Nintendo's bought Square-Enix or that he's dropping the Wii U's price, nothing he announces can make that much of a difference in "preempting" the PS4 announcement.

I did read the article. It asked the question whether this was a preemptive strike against the PS4 announcement next week, & nothing really on the 3DS would do that unless Nintendo announced they bought Square-Enix & were announcing Dragon Quest 11 for the thing. The Wii U price drop thing was just an afterthought that occurred to me at the time.

Well, if they did I wouldn't expect it to actually be released for a good 3-4 years (if you're lucky), since for whatever reason Square-Enix always takes their sweet time making the latest installment of their least-changing franchise.

Now, a new Kingdom Hearts game on 3DS, though, wouldn't surprise me, since S-E's going to keep looking for a way to stall on Kingdom Hearts 3 until they finally decide what they're doing with FF vs. 13.
