Could the return of the legendary tournament be a complete crapshoot?

When Nintendo revealed their E3 plans, most of us were very excited to hear that they were brining back their legendary Nintendo World Championships. This old competition has become so well known over the years due to it having a special, and extremely rare, set of competition cartridges that ran... Read more...

My Joyless Amiibo Journey WiiU

Our very own King Nintendo Fanboy details his personal Amiibo journey and how Nintendo is doing nothing to make it better.

If you don’t know me, let me just say I’ve been a super, insane Nintendo fan for nearly my entire life. I became hooked when I played a Nintendo Entertainment System, and was immediately enamored by a life full of Nintendo games, toys, and media. Over the years, it has been a strong constant in... The Problem with Nintendo of America's Limited Editions WiiU

Nintendo of America is upsetting fans and losing potential money in the process.

Back in May, we first heard that the Nintendo World Store in New York City would be exclusively selling a Limited Edition version of Mario Kart 8 in North America. This special game variant came with the anticipated Wii U racer and a statue of the most iconic weapon in the game: a Spiny Blue Shell.

Smash Bros. players with Nintendo's new hardware are in luck.

We recently learned that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will not take advantage of Circle Pad Pro accessories. Instead, the new portable Smash Bros. will make use of the C-Stick built into the upcoming New Nintendo 3DS hardware.

I find this news awful because it gives Japanese players who... Read more...

Nintendo Needs Another Revolution

by Justin Berube - 4:58 pm EDT

Ten years ago, something special was brewing within Nintendo.

Ten years ago, Nintendo started a revolution that paved the way for some of their best-selling systems of all time. At E3 2004, Nintendo held what can easily be considered their best press conference ever. The GameCube was clearly struggling and the company promised to talk about a new dual screen handheld device.

My Thoughts on the Megaton Filled Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct WiiU3DS

Hear the good, the bad, and everything else from a person that has played more Smash Bros. than is probably healthy.

Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct focusing solely on the two upcoming Super Smash Bros. games was filled with a ton of incredible information. It’s clear these titles are going to be something special for Nintendo fans.

I’ve been playing Smash Bros. since the day the first one hit North America.... Read more...

Pokémon X & Y: My Most Wanted Changes 3DS

The future of the Pokémon series could be very bright.

I’ve been playing Pokémon since Red and Blue first hit North America. Back then, I was one of those super hardcore fans playing the video games and the card game all the time. Heck, I was even an official Pokémon TCG League Gym Leader.

My love for Pokémon has never died, though I will say... Read more...

Hyrule Historia: A Timeline for the Trash

A look at one of the biggest letdowns in an otherwise-fantastic book.

When Hyrule Historia first released in Japan, I was highly skeptical of the official Zelda timeline it presented, but I managed to keep an open mind. I can’t read Japanese and decided to wait for a translated version that would, hopefully, explain specific confusing events in greater detail. Well, after having time to read the English translation of the book, cover to cover, I still feel the official Zelda timeline has two major flaws.

How Nintendo of America Severed Direct Two-Way Communication With Its Fans

In 2007, Nintendo outsourced Nintendo Power and destroyed NSider.

Not so long ago, Nintendo of America (NOA) had two great means of communicating with its fans. NOA used both Nintendo Power magazine and NSider, Nintendo’s official online community, to talk with fans, build a community, and respond and interact directly to those most interested in its products.

Why Are North American Kid Icarus: Uprising Cards So Hard to Collect? 3DS

by Justin Berube - 9:00 am EDT

Nintendo of America isn't making it easy, and doesn't seem to care.

Kid Icarus: Uprising came out in March. Even before the title hit store shelves, the official game trailers teased an AR card collecting element included in the game. Nintendo continued to whet the appetite of players hungry for AR cards by including sample cards with every copy of the game.

The High Barriers to Entry in Competitive Pokémon DS

by Justin Berube - 5:33 pm EDT

The complexities of Pokémon never cease to amaze.

There are millions of Pokémon players in the world, but only a small percentage of those people truly take that hobby to the competitive level. I’ve tried several times over the years to create a Pokémon team that can stand up to the best of them. Unfortunately, I’ve found there are several... Read more...
