Xenoblade Hitting North America with GameStop Exclusive?

(UPDATED - Nintendo posts pics on Facebook!) Could the fruits of rainfall finally wash ashore?

UPDATE: Nintendo has posted images from the game on the company's official Facebook page.

Xenoblade Chronicles may be released in North America as an exclusive to gaming retail giant GameStop. On the flip side, an exclusive version of the game could be hitting GameStop.

Over on NeoGAF, a screenshot was posted of GameStop's upcoming releases computer system, and at the very bottom of the list could be seen "Xenoblade Chronicles GS Exclusive". The game shows a release date of 4/3/2012.

Xenoblade, a game which has gotten incredibly positive reviews, was localized for release in Europe earlier this year. The English-language version, however, was not approved for release in North America leaving many Wii owners in the United States with a tough decision: either hope for the best, or import the game and play it on a modified console. It appears that those who chose the former might be getting their wish this upcoming spring.

That Title is baiting.
I would prefer "Xenoblade May Be Hitting North America as Gamestop Exclusive"
Shoot "Could the fruits of rainfall finally wash ashore?" be less baiting.

It's written under the rumor category.  Most of our readers don't read the news through the forum, I think.

So... the game could be exclusive to Game Stop or Game Stop could end up with an exclusive edition of it....

BlackNMild2k1December 02, 2011

I would like to make a little suggestion since I think quite of few of us that comment do mostly read through the forums.

How about changing the icon to the left of the title of the thread depending on what kind of story it is. I'm sure MegaByte could put in some custom icons that say things like "Rumor", "Blog", "News" or "Editorial".

That should end alot of confusion on the forum side of things.

That was my thought as well, but I was hoping for the latter

An Aggregator and the RSS Feed doesn't have the category on it.
Most forum regulars do because its easier.

Though I'm of the mindset that titles should naturally lend themselves to a category.

In the end it isn't my call.  It's the Sites style guide.

Glad to see that it might be coming out in that coveted post-holiday season window where nobody really buys anything.

That's interesting.  I only ever hit the one on the site.

I stand corrected.

Hmm... Awesome news for many, but I've already got a second (used) Wii with the necessary homebrew installed to play import games. I've already received an imported copy of Xenoblade from the UK. How does that saying go? Too little, too late?

Glad to have given my money to NoE in this case. They deserve it for recognizing quality and supporting the game without needing:
(a) outside critical approval (#6 Wii retail game on Metacritic),
(b) active campaigning from a nearly-abandoned fanbase, and
(c) proof of successful sales in other regions.
NoE took a risk publishing a game that I really wanted. They earned my business and I'm happy that they (who have also committed to publishing a couple of other games that appeal to me greatly in 2012) are the ones receiving my dollars.

Also glad to know that people who aren't willing to jump through the import hoops will get to enjoy this gem of a game anyway.

While I could be cynical, I'll instead simply see this as a positive step on the part of NoA. Recognizing that this game deserves release, even if it is considerably later than it should have been, is still very much a good thing.

Now if only they'd give us EarthBound on Virtual Console...  ;D

broodwarsDecember 02, 2011

Well, good for the folks who didn't import it, assuming this rumor is true.  I already imported it, and I imported the soundtrack as well so there's pretty much nothing Gamestop could offer that would tempt me to double-dip on this version.

Ian SaneDecember 02, 2011

Having to buy it from GameStop would kind of suck, you know?  Still better than nothing but ARRRGH!  GAMESTOP?!  COME ON!!

I have a feeling this is Nintendo's version of the Limited Print run off their Website that many of us were urging them to do.  They don't do online ordering, so (once again, if this is real) they figure a Gamestop-exclusive is the same thing.

Chocobo_RiderDecember 02, 2011

Once again, the sky over Nintendo's world remains firmly in place.

ejamerDecember 02, 2011

Funny note: Just double-checked how much it cost to import. I paid slightly less to get a copy of this game shipped from Europe than the rumored GameStop release is listed at ($49.99+tax). Somehow that doesn't sound right.

Didn't want to go through the trouble of importing a copy and modding my Wii to play this, but if this rumor holds true, then I may have to consider getting it, depending on if I'm in an RPG mood when it releases.

I've heard nothing but praises, but should really read more about the gameplay before I commit.

AdrockDecember 02, 2011

I'll buy this out of principle even from GameStop. I'm still hoping for The Last Story since that's the one I wanted more.

Yeah, that's the game I hope NoA announces soon, since NoE still hasn't announced a date for it.  I'd rather not have to import that if I don't have to.

Second on the sentiment but I want Pandora's Tower more.

EnnerDecember 02, 2011

I have yet to import and un-region-lock my Wii, so I hope this rumor comes true!

If I can only get this from Gamestop I suppose I'll do that, but if that's the case I'll just order it off their website. That way I won't have to worry an opened display piece attempted to be passed off to me as "new" or deal with any product pushing.

You can get the game Direct from Nintendo as well.

Well, that would be even better.

Nintendo caving in to outside pressure?

Surely you all jest.

We don't jest about these things.

(And don't call me Shirley.)

Chocobo_RiderDecember 03, 2011

Three minute Xenoblade trailer is currently sitting on your Wii's Nintendo Channel if anyone's interested.

If it's the same one that went out on Twitvid... massive spoilers. So yeah.

EnnerDecember 03, 2011

Thankfully the trailer is so haphazardly edited that it is hard to tell what was going on unless you were familiar with the game in the first place.

Still, some of the scenes they picked looked like they could be late-game stuff to anyone who is very familiar with JRPGs.
