The NPD Group has announced their retail results for July in the United States, with a limited Nintendo presence.
On the software front, Lego Jurassic World was the best selling game in all combined formats, barring system bundles which would have given the win to Batman: Arkham Knight. From July 5 to August 1, the 3DS version was the second best selling version of the game, while the Wii U version outsold the PlayStation 4 version of the title. In a statement to VentureBeat, Nintendo revealed that Splatoon sold 85,000 units in the month in North America, combining retail and eShop sales, and Wii U sales were up 10% over the first seven months of 2014 which included Mario Kart 8's launch months. Later reports indicated the retail Splatoon sales in just the US were about 70,000.
Hardware continues to be a struggle for Nintendo, as the same VentureBeat report indicated that 3DS sales to this point are up 35% from the same time last year, translating to approximately 105,000 units. Wii U sold approximately 47,000 in July, which finally allowed the system to surpass the US sales of the Sega Dreamcast after 33 months.
