The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Bundle Highlights a Golden Autumn for Nintendo Games
Dates and Details Revealed on Zelda Bundle with Gold Controller, New Tetris and Professor Layton Titles.
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Leaves won’t be the only things turning gold this fall as Nintendo prepares to launch an extraordinary lineup of games for its Wii™, Nintendo 3DS™ and Nintendo DS™ game systems. At a recent meeting of GameStop retail store managers from across the United States, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing Scott Moffitt revealed new details about upcoming releases for several fan-favorite franchises:
A special limited-edition The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword bundle containing the game and a gold* Wii Remote™ Plus controller will be available when the game launches on Nov. 20.
Also for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, every copy in the initial production of the game will come packaged with a special music CD featuring orchestral arrangements of select songs that will be performed at The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert.
Nintendo will launch the upcoming Tetris®: Axis game for Nintendo 3DS systems on Oct. 2.
The Professor Layton and the Last Specter™ game for the Nintendo DS family of systems will launch Oct. 17.
“Nintendo has something for you this fall, no matter what type of gamer you are, no matter what Nintendo system you’re playing,” said Moffitt. “Whether you’re looking for a world-spanning epic like The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the pick-up-and-play puzzle fun of Tetris: Axis or the mind-bending adventure of Professor Layton and the Last Specter, we’ve got you covered.”
The limited-edition gold controller bundle for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be offered at a suggested retail price of $69.99. The game will also be sold separately at a suggested retail price of $49.99, though the gold controller will only be available as part of the special bundle. As an additional 25th anniversary treat for fans who purchase the game early, every copy in the initial production, whether sold by itself or as a part of the limited-edition bundle, will come with a free CD featuring select orchestral arrangements of iconic music spanning the history of the franchise which will be performed at The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert performances in October 2011. For more information about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, visit http://www.zelda.com/skywardsword.
The original portable Tetris® game was a smash hit on the Game Boy™ system. The new Tetris: Axis game lets players use the magic of the Nintendo 3DS system to jump into the action in 3D without the need for special glasses. The game includes more than 20 different modes – some familiar, some new. Up to eight players can compete in wireless multiplayer battles, even if only one player has a game card**. Tetris: Axis also makes use of the augmented-reality and SpotPass™ features of Nintendo 3DS. Tetris: Axis is part of a stirring fall lineup for Nintendo 3DS that also includes Pokémon™ Rumble Blast (launching Oct. 24), Super Mario 3D Land™ (November) and Mario Kart™ 7 (December).
Professor Layton and the Last Specter for the Nintendo DS family of systems is the fourth installment in the Professor Layton puzzle adventure series. It begins a new trilogy that is a prequel to the original games, set three years before the events in Professor Layton and the Curious Village™. The game contains more puzzles than any in the series to date. As a North American exclusive to the overall Professor Layton and the Last Specter package, a bonus role-playing game called Professor Layton’s London Life™ containing more than 100 hours of additional content will be available to players from the start of the game.
Remember that Wii and Nintendo 3DS feature parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/wii or http://www.nintendo.com/3ds.
* Note that the gold controller will simply be gold in color and will not contain any actual precious metals.
** Multiplayer mode requires multiple Nintendo 3DS systems, each sold separately.
Honestly, I would prefer the Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD method where you popped in the disc and the disc itself had all the goodies on it like HD version of memorable moments in Zelda. Well cleaned up in this case.
The CD is tempting, but it's only "special arrangements" of "select" songs from the concert, not the entire concert itself (and before you ask why Nintendo should "give away" the concert music when they want you buy tickets to it, the experience is COMPLETELY different between listening to a soundtrack and experiencing live it in person). If it was like the Smash Bros. Melee soundtrack that Nintendo gave away in Nintendo Power (which I tracked down and bought on Ebay JUST for that CD), this would be more enticing. Given that it's only likely to be 2-3 tracks long, I'll hunt for the .mp3s online after the game comes out and continue to wait on picking up the game. There's just too much good stuff coming out this Fall for Zelda to really compete for what few gaming dollars I have right now.
In the age of YouTube, soundtrack CDs being packed in with games are kind of redundant. As for the the golden Wii Remote Plus, I'm waiting to see what that bundle will cost in the UK. With two MotionPlus units already acquired, it's probably not necessary for me to get one of those, but whatever.
It continues to amaze me that people think piracy is okay, and will actually use it as means of justifying not buying a game.
I'm looking at you, broodwars...
And where have I EVER said I was pirating the game? The CD's free, and one way or another it'll end up on the internet. I have said that I'm buying Skyward Sword used due to issues I have with how badly Nintendo of America has conducted its business lately, which is NOT piracy. This CD, if it were the actual full soundtrack, might have pushed me over the edge to buying the game new, but from the sounds of it it's merely a sampler.
I couldn't use this remote, they should give you the golden remote for storage in your collectables case and motion plus add-on that you can attach to any of your previous remotes :-p :-(

In this instance I'm referring to the practice of downloading mp3 files. The soundtrack may be included at no additional charge but that does not provide license to download it. The CD is offered as a contingency of the game purchase, and unless Nintendo offer the files for download in an official capacity, other illegitimate means of obtaining them is stealing regardless of the prevalence of the act. NWR's own insanolord recently lamented registering his Ocarina of Time 3D in the previous Club Nintendo year because he could have obtained the mp3 files online...this is not the answer, kids. Pay for what you want or live without it!

You know, I'm not at all for piracy, but....I admit, I have downloaded the mp3's for the Oot 3DS soundtrack, not because I don't have the CD (I have the CD, I registered my copy of Oot 3D soon as I got it), but because I really, really don't want to bust the shrinkwrap on my copy. I want to keep it pristine. Is this crazy? Sure. But it's the stupid fanboy inside me that's making me do this.
I will most definitely preorder the Gold Wiimote bundle, but to be honest, I'm considering keeping that pristine as well, buying a regular copy of Skyward sword, selling that back when I'm done with it, and downloading the Mp3's for that as well.
Now...barring the whole legality issue, is what I have done, and what I may do in the future, wrong?
I don't want to start a piracy war, but if it wasn't for piracy THIS SONG (overworld theme remix) would not have been made. And that's sad, because it's possibly the best thing to happen to the Zelda theme ever since its inception.
In your world remix culture would not exist. So a SONG LIKE THIS (lost woods remix) couldn't show me how dirty and incredibly serious one of my childhood favorites could sound.
Hate piracy or love it, you have to admit that the more people that listen to something great the better.

**************** This reply is awesome; the practice is wrong, but the reply is still awesome. Since you asked (maybe rhetorically) I will provide a very brief personal opinion summary: it is wrong because you are taking advantage of two materially different things (an unopened collector's item which has a value above and beyond a regular CD, as well as a product you get to enjoy using) for a single price.
Sorry, messed up the formatting of this post on my phone...

I wasn't asking rhetorically....I'm mostly of the belief that what I'm doing is not wrong (in an ethical/moral sense, not legal) but I really wanted to know what other people thought.
You have a very good point, but I wonder...will this CD really be a collector's item, in terms of value? I actually just wanted to keep it pristine because if not, my kids will toss it around and scratch it up. I'm not planning on selling it in the future, but at the same time, I'm not expecting it to be going on Ebay for $40 or something like that.
I hope that they produce the bundle for a while, because I've got some traveling coming up this holiday and probably won't have extra money to buy it until after Christmas.
I haven't seen any indication of what is on the soundtrack.
Whenever you see the words "special arrangements", it's a sampler CD. It will probably have 5 tracks max with a total running time of less than 15 minutes.
I already pre-ordered mine on Amazon. I could couldn't care less about the soundtrack CD, but I'm always up for another special WM+ After this, I will have 6 regular wiimotes (w/ 3 or 4 M+ attachments) and 3 WM+ to go with 3 Wiis in my house.

...are you me? Although I have 4 regular Wii Remotes (2 M+ attachments), 4 Wii Remote Plus units, one of those mini-remote/nunchuck combos and one of those awesome Penguin United Remote/Pistols...
I have 4 white regular Wiimotes. 2 of which came with the 2 white Wiis. 2 black regular wiimotes, 1 of which came with the black wii. 2 black Wiimote+'s, 1 came with Span Smasher & the other with WiiPlay+ 4 M+ attachments. 2 white & 2 black. 1 steering wheel attachment & 1 pistol attachment.
I think I only have 5 nunchucks though. 2 black & 3 white.
I've been meaning to go get MH3 w/ CCPro bundle, but it will have to wait till I find it for $20 or so. If I find GE bundle for the same, I will probably get that too.

Hm. I only have one Guitar and two Turn Tables. I have a keyboard (not a music keyboard, but the Logitech keyboard), two USB LAN adapters, a set of component cables... a Wii Speak... a non-functioning Rock Band-branded USB hub... pretty much it.
What's wrong with us? Why do we need all this Nintendo stuff? :D
Oh yeah, I also have 2 turn tables, & a wii speak that I've used about twice while connecting my girl with some NWR folk in a game of Animal Crossing.
I also have the Ubisoft USB camera that came with Your Shape.
edit: I have 3 sets of component cables (they are like $6 on monoprice)
edit 2: did I mention that all the GH/DJH/TH stuff has never been touched. the USB camera for YourShape was used maybe 3 times the mics got quite a bit of use the classic controller might've been used about 4-5 times (but it's too small for my hands) The black Wii is only ever used for Netflix the two black wiimotes are only ever used with the black wii (M+ & nunchuck is never hooked up) I haven't actually played a Wii game for more than 2 seconds since DKCR came out.
