I'd love to see a redone version. You can even ramp up the difficulty by eliminating the random ammo drops, so players REALLY have to pick and choose their targets. I can see that also being frustrating though...
The games would not have the bullet heaven like RE 4. You would be forced to save your ammunition for more perilous endeavors. Unlike the Ganado from RE4, the zombies would remain slow, however, Capcom could increase their numbers since it is an entire city infected. Of course a variety of weapons could be possible, but ammunition would be scarce.
The only problem I see with a game like this is that Capcom would say that the games would alienate casual gamers, but I see a remake like appeasing old and new fans of the series. Hell, I would but both games on day one. I do not see Capcom going through with anything like this because they have gotten really lazy in the last couple of years with the Resident Evil remakes. Lasly, I loved RE 4 and 5.
That's what I'm envisioning. On second thought, though, would that really be fun? The fun of RE4 is being able to mow down hordes of "zombies" in a fast-paced action game. There were only a handful of times you ever had to backtrack, and the game was so linear that you always had everything you needed to get past the..."puzzles." The older RE games definitely had a different emphasis. Would the RE4 engine really lend itself to the originals?
Lack of ammo won't be a problem if you can get a headshot on every zombie.
Also you really think there was any lack of ammo in 3?
To be honest, there's not really a lack of ammo in any of the original games, assuming you used the right tool for the job. I usually end each game with 200+ handgun shots, a bunch of shells, and a few rounds for the heavier guns.
What the games do well is that they pace new ammo in such a way that you're always thinking that you have to conserve ammo, even if that's not really the case.
As to headshots, I think it'd not only make things far too easy to include any one-shot kill system, but I recall that that wasn't the case in RE4, and that game went just fine. Or are you thinking of importing the puny killzone of Umbrella Chronicles? I'm not sure that would be fun.
I think that changing the style to RE4 would force them to retool the entire game.
I'd rather have one quality remake of RE2, an RE5 port or a brand new game similar to RE4.
Maybewe could see Capcom split up the series? Like on the HD platforms wesee new RE games with Chris starring them and the Wii gets new gamesstarring Leon (that aren't rail shooters).
You don't really want to see a RE5 port.
And I really don't think Capcom has enough talent to support two separate, high-quality RE lines. To be honest, without Mikami I'm not convinced they have the talent to properly nurture one. The Mikami-less games have always struck me as less fun than the ones he directed.
