Topic: Worst sentence in worst Wii "first look" ever.

(Okay, it's the first part of a sentence. Bear with me.)

Drumroll please...

"The Wii's graphics seem to be equal to, if not a shade better than, the PS2's..."

My head just blew up. It's amazing I'm still able to type...without a head! (And if you'd substituted "Wii" with "Gamecube" in the sentence, then my head still would have blown up, but after dozens of times of hearing that, perhaps I got numb?)

You know why this is?  Because Washington Post writers and their audience don't care about graphics enough to tell the difference between PS2 and Wii.  Lots of people won't be able to tell the difference - only nerds will notice. (edit: I include myself in that group).

Dude, anybody with EYES can tell the difference between the PS2 and the Wii. Hell, anybody with eyes can tell the difference between the PS2 and the GAMECUBE, and the Wii is around twice as powerful as it.

I have seen more beautiful PS2 games than I have GameCube - sure it's the more powerful hardware, but only slightly.

I'm not sure what this sentence means. Where's the cut-off for beautiful? Are we saying that the top 50% of PS2 games graphic-wise are better on average than the top 50% of GC games? Or are we comparing the top 10%? Or are we even talking about ratios? If you have a low enough standard for "beautiful," the PS2 will win by default because it has more games, period. What's the deal, here?

In any case, a console's power is judged by the best it can produce. And, I'm sorry, PS2 has nothing on RE4.

But it's also a true statement.  I admit, if this guy's talking about framerates and stuff, maybe he should be more aware of Wii's increased power over PS2.  That said, at the end of the day, "anybody with eyes" can tell that Wii is closer to PS2 than it is to Xbox 360 or PS3.  The sooner people get over that, the sooner we can stop freaking out every time someone states the obvious - Wii is not extremely powerful.
