Topic: Retailers Reveal Details About 3DS Digital Download Cards in Japan

Sales outlets are selling download cards starting July 23, and let us know about how many blocks the titles take up.

Various retailers across Japan have revealed release dates for download cards, as well as the size of New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Oni Training downloads on the Nintendo 3DS. 

The first outlet to release the download cards is Seven-Eleven, which will do so on July 23. The game and rental shop known as Geo will release the cards on July 24; Bic Camera and Jōshin Denki will release them on July 26; Don Kihote on July 27; and other retailers, such as Yamada Denki, Ishimaru Denki, and others, will release them on the actual release date of the games, July 28. Prices at Seven-Eleven are 4,480 yen (4,800 yen is the full retail price) for New Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3,580 yen (3,800 yen is the full retail price) for Oni Training. There are no prices listed for the other outlets. Although the download cards can be purchased early at some retailers, they will not be usable until July 28 at 9 a.m.

The cards also reveal the download sizes for both games. New Super Mario Bros. 2 will take up 2,950 blocks (370 MB) and Oni Training will take up 1,600 blocks (200 MB). Each card will also have an expiration date of 150 days after the day of purchase.

If Nintendo were awesome, they'd let you "redeem" the card early, allow your system to download the game via SpotPass, but not "unlock" it for play until launch.

They don't seem too big - I have just under 17,000 blocks left on my 8GB SD card. Won't be downloading NSMB2 though, as I want the yellow box and gold coin case for pre-orderers.

WOW. Thats totally greedy move. I know people tend to forget about redeeming gift cards but having such a small time frame is pathetic, not even a year. Most gift cards have like a year or two

I checked one of the Seven Elevens in my town. They had no idea about this stuff until I asked them. I couldn't find any cards at the store. I might try to check a few more tonight.

Well if you are buying a game card and you're not using it within 4-5 months then you never really wanted to play the game, and can't be forgetting about a game you just bought and haven't played it and be called a gamer... its not a gift card its a download card, think about it, gift cards are not for the now but for the later, and download cards are for the right now.
