Andrew shows his Shantae support with some 3D fan art.
Normally I'm not one to blatantly plug my artwork here beyond the occasional Powered Off comic or article drawing, but considering the Kickstarter for Shantae Half-Genie Hero has only thirty hours left, I want to spread the word as much as possible. I grew up with oldschool Castlevania titles and progressed into hardcore gamer around the time of the original Wario Land, and after reading about Zach gushing over Shantae as both a character and a game I had to play it. It was love at first sight, and while I may may still regard series like Mario, Zelda and Metroid among my favorites, Shantae is by far my favorite game character hands-down. Smart, funny, sexy, heroic and adorable, she is all of these things and more; what's not to like about her?
So now that she's here, dancing through the danger to bring us an all new game and plead for our support, what better chance to show her some love. My 3D modeling skills were getting pretty rusty and I dusted off my old software to make this:
Now updated, thanks to feedback from reader Ceric!
Shiny, ain't she? I designed this to look like one of those little bonus figurines that come with game pre-orders, or perhaps those gashapon toys you get in capsule machines in Japan. Maybe I should have made a render of the model without the glossy paint look and stuck her on a Smash Bros. trophy stand to anonymously distribute on some small forums, much like a certain purple prank I once pulled...
I can almost picture her in a 3D-rendered platformer.
And just cause I can, a rotating view.
Anyway, that's my little last-minute promotion push. This isn't my last piece of Shantae art, the next one is going to be much more detailed!
You can read about Shantae's series and the Kickstarter campaign in the feature I wrote a few days ago, but due to the nature of the feature, I had to force myself to be unbiased and impartial. Here I can let loose with unbridled opinion: go pledge on the game! Do it now!
